Galt Minor Hockey School, based in Cambridge, offers a comprehensive initiation program for children aged 3 and up. The program consists of four levels, catering to different skill levels and introducing participants to the fundamentals of skating and hockey. Registration for the Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs opens online on July 1st, with the season running from September to March.
The Learn to Skate program, known as SUPERHEROES, focuses solely on skating lessons with no hockey involved. Full hockey equipment is not required for this level, with only a CSA-approved helmet, face mask, and neck protector mandatory. The Learn to Play program is divided into Basics, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, focusing on skating, puck handling skills, and higher level drills. Participants have the opportunity to move up a level based on instructor recommendation for personalized instruction.
Galt Minor Hockey School also offers Power Skating sessions for 5-8 year olds on Wednesday nights at Dickson Arena. This program, held in two 10-week sessions from October to December and January to March, aims to improve skating techniques and speed on the ice. Proper equipment, including a CSA-approved helmet, face mask, neck guard, elbow pads, shoulder pads, hockey gloves, pants, hockey socks, straight stick, and skates, is mandatory for all participants.
Registration for Power Skating takes place during the sweater pick-up day before the season's first ice time. Galt Minor Hockey School values player safety and ensures that no participant is allowed on the ice without the appropriate equipment. With dedicated trainers and coaches, the school is committed to helping young players develop their skills in a fun and safe environment.
