Garden Island Yacht Club

Welcome to Garden Island Yacht Club (GIYC), Adelaide's friendliest yacht club for sailing enthusiasts. Founded in 1978, GIYC was established as an affordable club for sailing and boating enthusiasts. Over the years, it has transformed into a comprehensive facility, offering marinas, spacious hardstand areas, slipways, workshops, and a beautiful clubhouse. GIYC has everything that sailing and boating enthusiasts could possibly need.

What sets GIYC apart is the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by its friendly members. The club is entirely run by volunteers, who take pride in ensuring that everyone feels at home. Located close to the Barker Inlet dolphin sanctuary, members often have the opportunity to interact with these incredible marine creatures while enjoying their favourite water sports.

Although GIYC is situated in a mangrove environment subjected to tides, the waters of the Barker Inlet, St Kilda basin, and Section Bank provide sheltered sailing with favourable winds and minimal swells. Many members love sailing the gulfs, making stops at the clubs in North Haven before crossing and returning. The club organises various events, including cruising in company and casual racing, which offer an excellent chance to get to know the club, its waters, and learn tricks and techniques to enhance your sailing experience.

Working 'bees' at GIYC are characterised by a strong sense of camaraderie and social interaction. Members have the opportunity to contribute to the upkeep of the club while reducing their fees. Friday club nights and formal functions are always enjoyable, with catering provided by our large commercial-sized kitchen and a cosy bar. To ensure security, the club has an on-site caretaker, gate keys, and cameras.

GIYC is a member of Australian Sailing, the sport's representative body in Australia. All our members are covered by Australian Sailing's personal injury insurance scheme. We also have a helpful and friendly secretariat to assist with any membership queries.
