Georges River District Cricket Club, located in Riverwood, is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the Sydney Shires competition. With a history dating back to 1929, the club has a long-standing tradition of excellence and a strong sense of community.
Originally known as Bexley District Cricket Club, it played its inaugural season in 1929. However, due to a decline in numbers, Canterbury District Cricket Club folded in 1995. Bexley DCC absorbed the remaining players and grounds, renaming itself Canterbury-Bexley DCC in 1996. In 2002, the club changed its name to Georges River to better represent the area and provide opportunities for players in the surrounding regions to participate in Shires cricket.
Georges River District Cricket Club prides itself on offering excellent facilities and opportunities for players of all ages. The club's grounds at Bexley Oval, Lance Hutchinson, and Bland Ovals provide exceptional facilities both on and off the field, creating an enjoyable environment for players to improve their skillset.
The club is the only Sydney Shires club in the southern region of Sydney and fields teams in First to Fifth Grade in the Sydney Shires Competition. Additionally, the club has teams in the Metropolitan Cup, Chappellow Cup, Frank Grey Shield u/24s representative side, and the Masters (o/40s) and Classics (o/50s) competitions.
Georges River District Cricket Club has a dedicated committee, including Club President Kevin Croom, Treasurer Andrew McGuiness, Club Secretary Curtis Cheney, and Head Coach Matt Hoggett.
