Gillian Pilkington would like to extend a warm invite to everyone in the sports community to join Gillies Mar-Jan Stage School. Based in Chorley, Lancashire, the school covers a broad spectrum of dance classes, including ballet, tap, modern/jazz, street dance, boogie babies, acro, and zumba — there's genuinely something for all.
Gillian has a long-standing connection with the school, starting as a student herself at the tender age of 3. She later studied at Italia Conti Stage School in London before returning to teach at Mar-Jan Stage School. In 1994, she opened her own dance school in Adlington and a year later took over the Chorley school, establishing what is now Gillies Mar-Jan Stage School.
The students at Gillies Mar-Jan Stage School can undertake exams with the British Theatre Dance Association, offering a valuable sense of achievement and helping to develop their technique, discipline, and performance skills. Additionally, the school puts on a bi-annual show in aid of charity, giving students the chance to showcase their talent while supporting a good cause.
Many former students have gone on to stellar careers in dance and teaching, both here in the UK and abroad. The school takes immense pride in these successes, having served as a launchpad for their professional journeys.
Summer holidays see the school hosting dance and drama workshops. These sessions offer a lively and creative space for students to hone their skills and explore different facets of the performing arts.
The school is part of the Children's University Trust, which aims to provide young ones with enjoyable and innovative learning experiences outside normal school hours. Gillian believes in sparking a love for learning and raising aspirations through engaging dance classes.
