After years of dedication and hard work, Gillyflower Golf course in Lostwithiel is finally open for business. The club recently welcomed its first players to experience the beauty and unique challenges of our newly designed golf course.
On a picturesque morning in early June, golf enthusiasts were treated to the opportunity to test their skills against the ecological twist that sets Gillyflower Golf apart. With each tentative step onto the green, the spirit of golf was rejuvenated in Lostwithiel.
The inaugural tee off took place at ten past eight yesterday morning, with distinguished figures such as honorary chairman Nico Raubenheimer, Sir Tim Smit, and head of golf Joe Micklethwaite leading the way. As the first balls were sent flying down the fairway, the crack of a driver striking echoed through the air. Champagne corks popped, and in that tranquil moment before our guests arrived, the course was officially opened.
Lostwithiel had long been without a functioning golf course, and there was a real risk of it being lost forever. However, thanks to a significant facelift, Gillyflower Golf now stands as a testament to the power of rejuvenation. With 9 fantastic holes and 18 strategically placed tees, our course is nestled in the stunning Fowey valley. Each hole is surrounded by a unique array of edible fruits, nuts, and vegetables, creating a haven for local wildlife and giving players an additional challenge.
At Gillyflower Golf, we strive to provide a golfing experience like no other – one that remains gentle on the environment and leaves an indelible mark on every golfer's memory. Those who have had the pleasure of navigating our course have praised its uniqueness and the tantalising twists it presents. The first three holes alone offer a definite challenge, while the expanded rough demands heightened concentration. Yet, the rewards are well worth it when players find themselves on the green.
Our course has garnered much praise for its impeccable condition, particularly the carefully maintained greens. Our dedicated greenkeepers have put in countless hours of hard work to ensure that every aspect of Gillyflower Golf meets the highest standards. The result is a beautiful course, with charming features like the preservation of an old tree and patches of long grass alongside meticulously maintained bunkers.
Gillyflower Golf is a true masterpiece, seamlessly blending ecological sensitivity with an exhilarating game of golf. We invite all golfers, whether seasoned or novices, to come and experience the marvels of our one-of-a-kind golf course. Prepare yourself for an unforgettable golfing experience that will captivate your senses and leave you yearning for more.
