Glossop North End AFC is a football club based in Glossop, Derbyshire, with their home ground being The Asgard Engineering Stadium. The club is focused on developing and discovering the best young players in the area through their Football and Education Programme, which is a partnership with Glossopdale Sixth Form.
The programme offers a comprehensive and diverse curriculum that provides access to higher education or a wide range of careers in sport. Participants will have the opportunity to develop their sporting skills through football training sessions and physical gym training throughout the course. The ultimate goal of the programme is to provide elite players with the chance to train with the Glossop North End AFC senior squad on a regular basis.
The Football and Education Programme will commence in September 2023 and will be based at the Glossopdale site on Newshaw Lane. Competitive matches will be played at The Asgard Engineering Stadium, which is the home of the First Team. The programme is led by a dedicated BTEC coach who ensures high-quality training and closely monitors the development of each player, timing their progression into the first team appropriately.
Students in the programme will study on the Level 3 extended diploma, which offers excellent opportunities for future pathways in the sports industry or further education. To be eligible for entry, applicants are required to have achieved five grades 9-4 in separate GCSE subjects or an equivalent merit or above in Level 2 BTEC/vocational subjects, with a grade 9-4 in English and Maths. However, the club also considers applications on a case-by-case basis, aiming to be flexible in making conditional offers.
The curriculum for the course includes a total of fourteen units, consisting of ten mandatory units providing a general foundation and four specialist units delving into specific topics. Some mandatory units include Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing, and Investigating Business in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry. Students who do not achieve a grade 4 in English and/or Maths will have the opportunity to participate in a GCSE resit programme.
In addition to their focus on football and education, Glossop North End AFC also offers their clubhouse for hire. Their recently constructed clubhouse can accommodate up to 70 people and is suitable for various private functions, including birthdays, weddings, and corporate events. The clubhouse features a fully licenced bar, a large screen projector, PC screen connectivity, internet access, a radio microphone, and a sound system.
