Grampound Football Club, under the stewardship of Colin Richards, occupies a notable position within the St Piran Football League, being one of Cornwall's oldest clubs, established in 1902. Dedicated to maintaining exceptional standards, Colin ensures the club provides superior facilities and equipment, creating an excellent footballing experience for all players. The club seeks ongoing support from both the Grampound community and the wider football fraternity to enhance its standards and affirm its regional significance.
A top priority for Colin and Grampound FC is offering first-rate amenities. The club features a newly re-laid and drained pitch, providing prime playing conditions, complemented by modern changing facilities. Known for its immaculate condition, the pitch is meticulously maintained by the club.
Grampound FC proudly holds the FA Charter Standard Club recognition, reflecting its commitment to high-quality football provision. To earn this distinction, the club met numerous criteria, including annual training events, the appointment of a Welfare Officer, criminal records checks for volunteers, ensuring Emergency Aid-trained personnel at all matches and training sessions, participation in the FA Respect programme, securing qualified coaches for youth teams, and maintaining superb club administration. The club continues to meet these standards under the current England Football Accredited scheme.
In recent years, Colin has successfully secured external funding to support the club’s development. Notable grants include a £500 award from the 2011 Premier League Players' Kit Scheme for children's kit, a £5,000 grant over three years from the Football Foundation's “Grow the Game” programme aimed at developing youth football, and a significant £71,350 from Sport England's “Protecting Playing Fields” grant in 2013-14 for pitch improvement. Additional funding includes a £3,600 grant from the Grampound Community Fund for mobile floodlights.
Ongoing support from the Grampound with Creed Parish Council has provided annual £500 grants since 2014 for ground upkeep. Further grants, such as a £4,000 award in 2017 from the Grampound Community Fund for a compact tractor and mower, a £500 Cornwall FA Small Grant in 2018 for ground maintenance equipment, and a £750 Football Foundation “Save the Game” grant in 2019 to support grassroots clubs, have been crucial.
Recent financial aid includes a £2,500 grant in 2020 from the Grampound Community Fund for additional ground maintenance equipment, contributions of £860 from Sport England's COVID-19 Community Emergency Fund, £640 from the Football Foundation's Pitch Preparation Fund, and a £2,300 grant in 2022 for storage facility repairs and goal assembly procurement.
Colin ensures that Grampound FC's latest results and fixtures are readily available on social media and club directories to keep supporters informed. The club also encourages contributions through Easyfundraising and provides weather updates for match days on its website.
Grampound FC appreciates the support of its sponsors, The Dolphin Inn in Grampound and DB Electrical in St Austell.
Throughout its history, Grampound FC has achieved numerous accolades, including the titles of Duchy League Champions in 1971-72, Div. 2 Champions in 1983-84, and Reserves Cup Winners in 2014-15.
