The Greensborough Junior Football Club, based in Greensborough, is a proud member of the AFL community. The club, established in 1964, has a rich history that is closely linked to the origins of junior football in the Diamond Valley area. It was Joe Murphy, the President of the Greensborough Football Club and an All-Australian footballer, who initiated the introduction of junior football to the region.
In the early years, Greensborough fielded one under 15 team in the now disbanded Preston/Reservoir Junior Sunday Football League. In 1968, the administration of junior football was handed over to the Diamond Valley Football League (DVFL), and the competition commenced as we know it today.
Since then, the Greensborough Junior Football Club has evolved and grown, and in 2001, it relocated to its current home at Anthony Beale Reserve, which boasts two grounds and a state-of-the-art pavilion. The club provides a welcoming environment for all new players and families, and it continues to contribute to the development of the sport in the community.
The club is run by a dedicated committee, headed by President Simon Jones and Vice President Simon Harding. Other key members of the executive committee include Secretary Nadine McClintock and Treasurer Sara Flottl. The Football Director, Brett Cook, plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the club's football programme.
The Greensborough Junior Football Club also has a strong focus on promoting the growth and development of girls' football. In 2024, the club plans to introduce a junior girls' football programme, and girls of all ages are encouraged to participate. Further notices will be released throughout the year to provide more information about this exciting initiative.
