Greenwood Archers

Welcome to Greenwood Archers New Plymouth, an established archery club affiliated with NZ Archery. Located in the beautiful city of New Plymouth, our club is dedicated to promoting and supporting the sport of archery for people of all ages and skill levels.

At Greenwood Archers, we offer a variety of archery disciplines to cater to every archer's interest and preference. Our main forms of archery include target archery, indoor archery, and field archery. Target archery is the most recognised and popular form of archery worldwide, and it is shot on an outdoor course at distances of up to 90m. This is the form of archery used in prestigious events like the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Indoor archery takes place during the winter months and is shot at short distances, usually around 18 metres. It requires precision and accuracy, making it popular among archers who strive for perfection. Field archery, on the other hand, involves shooting at animal or circular target faces set at various distances, heights, and angles in a natural terrain setting. It is designed to simulate bowhunting conditions and challenges archers to adapt to different terrains and weather conditions.

Our club hosts regular shooting times for members to practise and improve their skills. On Saturdays, we have a practise session from 10:00 am at both our target range and field range. Sundays are dedicated to club shoots from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm on our summer target range during warmer months and our indoor range during winter. Monday evenings provide another opportunity for club shoots from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

If you're new to archery or wish to learn how to shoot, Greenwood Archers offers beginner courses that consist of four lessons. These courses cover the basics of safe and correct equipment use, as well as proper shooting technique. All equipment is provided, and instruction is given by our qualified coaches. Beginner courses take place on Wednesday evenings, with slots available for juniors (ages 10 to 17) from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, and for adults (18 and over) from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Membership at Greenwood Archers is open to individuals who are passionate about archery. Our membership year runs from 1st October to 30th September. The annual fees vary depending on the quarter you join, with the full amount being $185 if you join in the first quarter (October, November, or December). Quarterly fees are $148 for the second quarter (January, February, or March), $110 for the third quarter (April, May, or June), and the full amount of $185 for the fourth quarter (July, August, or September), which also includes the following year's membership.
