Haslemere Bowling Club is a bowling club located at Haslemere Recreation Ground in Haslemere, GU27 2NN. They offer a friendly and welcoming environment for both experienced bowlers and beginners to enjoy the sport. The Club's annual Open Day, held on Sunday 28th of May, provides an opportunity for interested individuals to try out lawn bowls. In previous years, the event has been a great success, attracting a good number of participants eager to experience the sport.
Photographs from previous Open Day events can be found on the Club's Gallery page.
For those who couldn't attend the Open Day, the Club offers Monday and Thursday Roll-Up afternoons throughout the season. Participants are encouraged to introduce themselves to a member and join in the games. The Club typically plays in “Whites or Greys,” but beginners are not expected to adhere to formal attire and just need to wear flat-soled shoes. Tuition for beginners who have never played lawn bowls before can be arranged by contacting the Membership Secretary through the Committee Page.
The Club also provides a helpful Welcome Brochure, available on their website's “Links” page.
Haslemere Bowling Club is proud to have the support of LOCAL ESTATE AGENTS, who sponsor the Club. Their sponsorship plays a crucial role in supporting various Club activities and events. More information about the local estate agents can be found by clicking on their logos, which lead to their respective websites.
The Club welcomes new members throughout the year and encourages them to contact the Membership Secretary for further information. The bowling green is accessible on most afternoons during the bowling season for roll-ups, where members can practise and improve their skills. Experienced bowlers are available to guide and support both beginners and less experienced members. The Club recommends attending roll-ups on Thursday and Monday afternoons, as they are popular days with enough attendees to allow for triple play.
This format offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience and skills needed in playing with other clubs during the fixture programme.
The Club introduced the Club Online Booking System (COBS) for the 2022 season, which has proven to be a helpful tool for the Club captain in setting up teams for friendly fixtures. Although traditional fixture sign-up sheets are still available, the online system acts as the club event diary and is based on Google Calendar. Members are encouraged to make use of this system and can contact the President or Club Secretary for further information and assistance on how to use and take advantage of COBS.
The Club publishes newsletters and reports to keep members updated on events and activities. One of the notable events mentioned is the successful club Open Day, which saw a good turnout and added a few new members to the roster. The Summer Newsletter provides an editorial reflecting on the season and the Club's achievements. Additionally, the Club organises Club Championships, which are made possible by the efforts of Peter Wallace with Brian providing able assistance.
Overall, Haslemere Bowling Club offers a vibrant and inclusive environment for bowlers of all skill levels. With their well-maintained green and dedicated members, it is a fantastic place to enjoy the sport and be part of a thriving bowling community.
