About
Haxby Shotokan Karate Club, based in York, has been a cornerstone of the local sports community for over 40 years. Mike Gude, the Chief Instructor and a 6th Dan black belt with over five decades of teaching experience, leads the club. Alongside him, seasoned instructors Ian Teasdale (3rd Dan), Ben Lacey (2nd Dan), and Ian Shaw (5th Dan) share their expertise to guide members of all abilities and fitness levels, starting from the age of 6.
Training is held twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. The younger students kick off their session from 6:15 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by the main class for everyone aged 7 and upwards from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Membership is affordable, with children (ages 6-17) paying £15 per month and adults (18+) £20 per month, and family discounts available.
What truly sets Haxby apart is its non-profit status, run entirely by volunteers. This structure ensures top-quality training remains accessible. Regular updates and club news can be found on their blog and social media, keeping members engaged with recent events and community happenings.
