It was forbidden to practise Korean martial arts during the Japanese occupation of Korea. After Korea gained independence, Gen. Choi Hong Hi returned to Korea and, based on his learnings from Karate, combined it with traditional Korean martial arts to create Taekwon-Do. It focuses on self-defence, physical fitness, and mental discipline.
HB ITF Taekwon-Do NZ ITF is dedicated to providing the best training facility for its members. HB ITF Taekwon-Do NZ ITF believes in developing future leaders and provides great opportunities for the youth to support, help, and teach others. The club fosters a culture of respect, where respect for instructors and seniors is expected and role-modelled throughout training. Additionally, black belt-only training classes are offered during the week to enable continued growth and personal development.

Additionally, HB ITF Taekwon-Do NZ ITF offers flexible and relaxed classes for 2-6-year-olds, helping them gain confidence and readiness for the junior classes.
HB ITF Taekwon-Do NZ ITF teaches the foundations for the future success of all members. They offer comprehensive training in patterns, sparring, and power breaking. Members are taught how to spar effectively, including a strong focus on learning correct hand and foot technique. Breaking techniques are learned in a fun and supported environment.
The club also places a strong emphasis on perseverance, flexibility, and balance.
Head instructor Ben Evans is truly exceptional, with a wealth of experience gained from training with the DPR Korea National Team at World Champs events. He has attended workshops and International Instructor courses with Grand Master Hwang Ho Yong ITF Technical Director. Ben has also studied in Russia, where he learned highly effective training methods that have produced many world champions. With Ben's expert guidance, numerous club members have achieved gold, silver, and bronze at various competitions, including the ITF World Cup and Championships.
