Hearties is a vibrant sports club located in Latrobe Council, Tasmania. This club is dedicated to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle through the love of walking. With a warm and welcoming community, Hearties offers a range of walking groups for people of all fitness levels and ages.
Led by the experienced organiser, Wendy, the club holds weekly walks every Friday at 9:30 am. The walks generally last between 60 to 75 minutes, covering a medium pace that is suitable for most members. Currently, the club has 24 active members who come together to enjoy these invigorating walks.
One of the great features of Hearties is that it is dog-friendly, allowing members to bring their furry companions along for the walks. However, it's important to note that the walks are not pram or wheelchair-friendly due to the meeting point being the steps at Axemans Hall of Fame in Bells Parade, Latrobe.
Hearties is conveniently located, making it easily accessible to residents in the Latrobe Council area. The walking club is situated near other nearby walking groups such as Walking Talking Walking Group in Deloraine, DCH Walkers Walking Group in Devonport, and Limilinaturi Walking Group in Devonport Community House.
By joining Hearties, members not only get to improve their physical fitness but also form meaningful connexions within the community. Walking has been proven to have numerous health benefits, including managing weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. It also reduces the risk of developing certain cancers, improves bone density, and enhances balance and coordination.
The club is a proud partner of the National Heart Foundation of Australia and is supported by the Foundation in its mission to promote heart health. Hearties acknowledges and respects the Traditional Owners and custodians of the country on which they walk, live, and work.
For those interested in joining Hearties or learning more about the benefits of walking, the club offers a free Personal Walking Plan that helps individuals improve their fitness levels in just six weeks. Healthcare professionals are also encouraged to refer patients to the club's structured and supportive walking programme, which aligns with national physical activity guidelines.
Hearties has had a positive impact on its members, such as Maria, a group walker who shared her success story. After struggling with weight, diabetes, and blood pressure issues for over four decades, Maria began walking and gradually increased her steps to 15,000 a day. As a result, she is no longer diabetic and has significantly improved her overall physical and mental health.
To stay connected with Hearties and be part of their vibrant walking community, individuals can join their Facebook group. The club is always happy to answer any questions, provide support, and welcomes donations to further its mission of promoting heart health.
In summary, Hearties is a dynamic sports club that offers weekly walking groups in the Latrobe Council area.
