Heavitree Bowling Club offers various levels of play to cater to different preferences and skill levels. Members can participate in internal club roll-up sessions, where they can simply turn up and play without prior booking. These sessions provide a supportive and relaxed environment for players to practise and socialise with fellow members.
The club also organises over 40 friendly matches each year against other clubs in Devon. These matches provide an opportunity for members to compete in a friendly and sociable manner while representing the club. Additionally, the club arranges day trips by coach to play against clubs further afield and even plans tours to other locations, such as the upcoming tour to Market Bosworth in August 2024.
The men's section of Heavitree Bowling Club participates in two over 60s leagues on Wednesday afternoons and takes part in several Devon Knockout competitions. The ladies section, on the other hand, plays in an afternoon Triples League. In the 2024 season, the club will also have a mixed team competing in the Thursday evening Exeter and District league, Division 2.
Aside from the league matches and competitions, the club organises its own internal triples league competition and internal singles and pairs competitions. These events allow members to showcase their skills and compete against their fellow club members in a friendly yet competitive environment.
Heavitree Bowling Club is more than just a sports club. It has a vibrant social side, with numerous events taking place throughout the year. Members can enjoy socialising and bonding with other members both on and off the field. Additionally, the club arranges day trips to other bowling clubs during the season, providing opportunities for members to explore different bowling venues and expand their network within the bowling community.
Accessibility is also a priority at Heavitree Bowling Club. The club is situated in Heavitree Pleasure Ground, Exeter, and has convenient street parking available nearby. The club has made efforts to ensure that the green is accessible to everyone, including those with mobility challenges. There is a sloping path and an available ramp for easy access to the green.
Membership at Heavitree Bowling Club is open to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The annual membership fee is 70 for playing members and 15 for social members. New members who are new to playing bowls can take advantage of a reduced first-year playing membership fee of 50. The club also offers free taster sessions, both before the season starts and by arrangement during the season.
Prospective members are welcome to attend three free sessions before deciding whether to join the club.
Heavitree Bowling Club is proud to have taken over the running of the club from the City Council in 2016. Since then, significant efforts have been made to improve the playing standard of the green, including the installation of an all-weather carpet surface. The club is committed to providing its members with a high-quality bowling experience and a friendly and welcoming community.
