Herts Canoe Club

Herts Canoe Club, situated at Hartham Common in Hertford along the River Lea, welcomes paddling enthusiasts of all levels. Organised by Danny, the club offers members the chance to paddle various crafts including kayaks, Canadian canoes, and playboats. The club meets every Sunday from 9:30 am, with added Tuesday evening sessions during summer for experienced paddlers.

Danny ensures new paddlers are well-supported, running beginner courses twice a year in April and May. These courses, held over four Sundays, start on calm waters before progressing to the gentle River Lea. Coaching is delivered by British Canoeing qualified volunteers, focusing primarily on closed cockpit kayaks, but Canadian canoe courses can be arranged as well.

For those keen on white water kayaking, Danny organises sessions at local weirs and trips to the Nene White Water Centre, with access to the Lee Valley White Water Centre also available. Additionally, the club holds residential trips to various locations like the Usk and Dart rivers.

Kayak touring is prominent at Herts Canoe Club, offering peaceful paddles on rivers and open waters. Members enjoy refining their skills on the 'Hertford Loop' and occasionally explore places like the Great Ouse and River Ivel. Canoeing is another highlight, with trips to both sheltered and moving waters, and options for solo or tandem paddles.

Membership is open to both new and experienced paddlers. Interested individuals can email or call the club, and those with some experience will be assessed by a coach. The subscription year starts on April 1st, with updated fees and forms available.
