The Gym at Scarness, named “Hervey Bay 100 Triathlon,” is Australia's top triathlon event. Located at the beautiful foreshore of Hervey Bay, the gym offers a picturesque setting for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. The triathlon is organised by the Hervey Bay Triathlon Club and is known for its long course, consisting of a 2 km swim, 80 km bike ride, and 18 km run.
The Hervey Bay 100 Triathlon is a community event created by athletes, for athletes. It is organised solely by passionate volunteers who strive to deliver the best triathlon experience. The event showcases the fantastic environment of Hervey Bay and utilises the unique Esplanade precinct. Inspired by the desire to create the perfect long course triathlon, the event was conceived in mid-2011 by members of the Hervey Bay Triathlon Club.
The distance of 100 km was chosen, symbolised by a pair of $100 print board shorts worn by one of the members. After careful planning and collaboration, the first race took place in October of 2011.
The success of the event attracted major sponsors, including the local Hog's Breath Café and other local businesses. To ensure the smooth management of the event, the professional services of Phil Hungerford and his Run Inn crew were recruited. With their expertise, the Hervey Bay 100 Triathlon has grown into one of Australia's most renowned triathlon events.
In 2023, the Hervey Bay 100 will take place on November 26th, while the Hervey Bay 50 will have its own special day on November 25th. The event offers both individual and team entries, with entry prices remaining the same as the previous year. Individual entries for the 100 triathlon are priced at $315, with an additional $25 for on-the-day membership if required. Team entries are priced at $375, which includes the on-the-day membership.
The entry fee for the 50 triathlon is $195 for individual participants, with an additional $17. 50 for on-the-day membership if needed.
In addition to the triathlons, the Hervey Bay 100 Triathlon offers a variety of events across the weekend, including the junior aquathlon and triathlon events, as well as the iconic Barge2Beach ocean swim.
