Hidden Gems Theatre School

Hidden Gems Theatre School is a well-established dance school located in Coulsdon, New Zealand. The school was founded by Gemma, a passionate performer who wanted to inspire others to pursue their love of dance and theatre. The ethos of Hidden Gems is “Performing... for the love of it,” emphasising the joy and happiness that comes from participating in the performing arts.

At Hidden Gems, the focus is on nurturing and encouraging talent in all areas of performance. The school offers musical theatre-based classes for children aged 3 to 16 years old. The classes aim to create, produce, and love a happy and healthy hobby. Students have the opportunity to showcase their talents through 1–2 performances throughout the year, including a Christmas show or showcase and a bigger end-of-term production in the summer.

The main three disciplines of Acting, Singing, and Dancing are the core elements of the classes at Hidden Gems. Students also learn valuable life skills, improve their confidence, make friends, and most importantly, have fun. The school believes that performing arts can provide a positive and transformative experience for young people, developing their creativity and self-expression.

Hidden Gems offers a range of classes to suit different age groups and interests. For children aged 3 to 6 years old, the Mini Gems class combines dance, drama, and singing in a fun and engaging way. For older students, the Hidden Gems class focuses on musical theatre and is open to children aged 7 to 16 years old. HG Dancers provides dedicated dance lessons for ages 6 to 16, while HG Singers offers group singing sessions for the same age group.

The school also organises school holiday workshops for all ages and provides 1-2-1 private tuition in Lamda, drama, and singing.

The dance classes at Hidden Gems are held at various locations in Coulsdon. Weekly classes take place on Tuesdays at Coulsdon C of E Primary School for students in KS2 (Years 2-6). On Wednesdays, dance lessons are held at St Peters Church in Rectory Lane, Banstead for HG Dancers and HG Singers. Private singing lessons are available on Wednesdays and Fridays for students aged 7 and above.

On Fridays, classes are conducted exclusively for students from Woodmansterne Primary School, including Mini Gems for ages 3 to 6 and Hidden Gems Musical Theatre for ages 6 to 12. Finally, on Saturdays, Mini Gems Musical Theatre is held at St Andrews Church for ages 3 to 6, and Hidden Gems Musical Theatre for juniors and seniors aged 7 to 16.
