Welcome to Honeymoon Bay, a family-owned and operated campground located in the far north Kimberley, just north of Kalumburu Community in Western Australia. This hidden gem offers a rustic and homegrown camping experience that will create lasting memories.
Established in 1992 by local indigenous couple, Les French and Ruth Davey, Honeymoon Bay offers grassy, beachfront, and ocean-view camping areas. The nightly fees are affordable, with adults charged $20, teenagers $10, and children under 12 staying for free. For those looking for a shorter visit, there is a picnic/day rate of $10 per vehicle.
During your stay, you can enjoy local guided tours to surrounding beaches and rock art sites. You can even try your hand at traditional-style crabbing after making your very own spear with members of the family that grew up on the property. Additionally, the campground offers amenities such as hot showers, flushing toilets, a public payphone, wifi, and a kiosk where you can purchase snacks, drinks, bread, ice, and souvenirs.
It's important to note that there are no marked-out campsites at Honeymoon Bay. Upon arrival, you can check-in and find a spot that suits you. It's a first-come, first-served basis, so bookings are not necessary. As a courtesy to your neighbours, it's recommended to make your own peace and be respectful of noise levels during the designated quiet hours from 8 pm to 8 am.
The water at Honeymoon Bay is straight from a bore and may have a red-earth colouring due to the iron-rich grounds. It's safe for consumption, but boiling it before drinking is recommended. Treated water can be obtained from Kalumburu or purchased at the kiosk.
Please remember to take all rubbish with you as there are no means to collect it at Honeymoon Bay. It's significant to be responsible for your own waste, including any boat anchoring materials. Alcohol is permitted at the campground, but it is not sold onsite. It's best to purchase any alcohol you need in Kununurra, Derby, or Broome before arriving.
If you're planning to bring a vehicle, you will need to purchase a Kalumburu vehicle permit upon arrival. ALT permits can also be obtained if needed. More information on entry permits can be found on the DPLH website.
In addition to the campground, Honeymoon Bay offers fishing charters led by Skipper Lancho. These charters take you to some of the best and most remote fishing spots in the Kimberley, practically guaranteeing a successful catch. Trips are available twice a day for up to 5 people, and you can secure your spot upon arrival at the campground.
At Honeymoon Bay, you'll have the ultimate coastal and fishing experience. Don't miss the opportunity to create unforgettable memories in this beautiful part of Western Australia.
