By the success of local player Howard Smith. Inspired by his achievements, a group of badminton enthusiasts came together to form the Howard Badminton Club in Dorking.
Since its inception, the club has grown and developed into a thriving community of players of all levels and ages. The club's main aim is to provide a friendly and welcoming environment for players to enjoy the sport of badminton, while also promoting fitness and well-being.
The club is based at St Teresa's School on Beech Avenue in Effingham, Surrey. The venue offers a spacious and well-equipped sports hall, complete with all the necessary facilities for a great badminton experience. Ample free parking is available on-site, making it convenient for members from Effingham, Bookham, East Horsley, Dorking, Leatherhead, Fetcham, and Ashtead.

The club participates in the East Surrey Badminton Association (ESBA) league, with a men's team competing in division 1. This provides opportunities for competitive play against other clubs in the area. Additionally, the club occasionally organises friendly matches against local clubs, allowing members to experience competitive match-style games.
Reopening in May 2021 after a period of closure, the club is excited to welcome back its existing members and is also actively seeking new members. To ensure that the club is the right fit for prospective players, the club offers a free badminton taster session, followed by a pay-as-you-go arrangement. This allows players to assess the club's environment and facilities before committing to full membership.
The club is led by dedicated and passionate individuals, including Mike Guillem, the Club Chairman, and Kathy Tombs, the Club Secretary. They work hard to ensure that members have the best possible experience at the club.
