Hucclecote Youth Football Club is a well-established football club located in Gloucester, New Zealand. The club was founded in 1973, with its inaugural season in the Gloucester Youth League taking place in 1974/5. The team is based at King George V Playing Fields in Hucclecote, Gloucester.
The team's colours of royal blue and yellow were inspired by an early sponsorship from a local Gloucester estate agent called Coles. Interestingly, it is rumoured that the original team manager also supported Everton, explaining the choice of blue and yellow as these were their away colours.
Hucclecote Youth Football Club is represented by various age groups known as Hawks, Harriers, and Hurricanes. This naming convention pays homage to Gloucester's connexion to aviation, specifically the Meteor, which was the first-ever jet engine aircraft developed by Sir Frank Whittle at the Gloucester Aircraft Company.
The club's early success came in 1976 when they won the Championship Trophy at the under 12 level. This was followed by another triumph in 1979, winning the under 14 Challenge Trophy. Despite facing some challenges, the club's growth accelerated under the chairmanship of Geoff Goodwin in the 1980s.
During this time, the club established strong links with clubs in Gouda, Gloucester's twin town in the Netherlands. The club even organised tours to Holland with the help of Ed de Goey's father, the former Chelsea and Holland goalkeeper.
Today, Hucclecote Youth Football Club is dedicated to promoting an enjoyable and safe environment for all players. The club holds Charter Standard Status and expects certain behaviours from its committee, coaches, players, and parents, as outlined in their Codes of Conduct.
The club is represented in various age groups across several youth leagues, including the Severn Valley Youth League, Cheltenham Youth League, and MidGlos Youth League. With over 250 players, Hucclecote Youth Football Club welcomes new players and encourages anyone interested to visit their Facebook page or contact the relevant age group coach for information on team availability.
To ensure the wellbeing of all participants, Hucclecote Youth Football Club has implemented various policies and procedures. These include an Anti-Bullying Policy, Codes of Conduct for players, parents/spectators, and club officials, a Match Officials Code of Conduct, an Equality Policy, and a Safeguarding Children Policy and Procedures.
One of the highlights for the club is the Hucclecote YFC Tournament, which will take place on June 22nd and 23rd, 2024, at Chosen Hill FP RFC in Churchdown, Gloucester. For inquiries about the tournament, interested parties can contact tournament@hucclecoteyfc. Co. uk.
In addition to regular teams, Hucclecote Youth Football Club also offers a learning and pan disabilities football category. This programme is open to children aged 7-16 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or a confirmed diagnosis of a learning disability. Those interested in joining this category can contact the Learning and Pan Disabilities football coach with the relevant information.
The club is run by a dedicated committee, with the Chairman overseeing operations. The Club Welfare Officer ensures the welfare and safeguarding of all participants, while the Club Secretary handles administrative tasks. The Treasurer manages the club's finances, ensuring its smooth operation.
