Shihan Tom has had the pleasure of representing England in various tournaments across the UK and Europe. He's honed his skills under the guidance of esteemed instructors like Sensei Eddie Daniels, Shihan Dave Evans, and Shihan Martin Day. With over 30 years of experience in Kyokushin Karate, Tom's a respected and skilled instructor.

IKKU Sutton Kyokushin was established in the late 90s by Shihans Alan Cleary and Tom Smith. Their mission? To teach pure Kyokushin Karate, free from political fuss. They started at the Guide hall in Wallington, and training still happens there today! Over the years, the club has grown and now includes dojos at Sutton Arena, David Lloyd in Cheam, and the Phoenix Centre.

At Sutton Kyokushin, training sticks to traditional Kyokushin methods, covering Kihon (Basics), Kumite (Clicker/Knockdown), and Kata. The club's open to juniors and adults with sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. You’ll find dedicated instructors like Shihan Alan, Shihan Tom, Sensei Graham, Sensei Mick, Sensei Glen Atkins, Senpai Lawrence Morris, Sensei Rob Sue, Senpai Maxine Searle, Sempai Janos Nagy, Senpai Lauren James, and Senpai Victor Low Foon ready to guide you.

The club’s all about building lifelong relationships with students. The seasoned instructors are committed to high-quality training, sharing their knowledge and expertise with each person. Shihan Alan Cleary, the Chief Instructor and a founding member of the Independent Kyokushin Karate Union (IKKU), holds the prestigious position of 6th Dan (Rokudan). Alan began his Kyokushin journey in 1978. Alongside him, Shihan Tom Smith, with over 30 years under his belt, is a highly accomplished instructor respected in the Kyokushin community.
