Force personnel stationed in Malaya during World War II. The studio became a popular training ground for martial arts enthusiasts and law enforcement officers alike.
In the late 1950s, Professor Kam Hock Hoe migrated to Australia and established the International Jui-Jitsu Foundation (IJJF) Walkaway in the City of Greater Geraldton. The club quickly gained recognition for its comprehensive and disciplined approach to teaching Japanese Jui-Jitsu. Today, the IJJF Walkaway club continues to uphold the values of honour, justice, and service through the art of Jui-Jitsu.
At International Jui-Jitsu Foundation Walkaway, students can expect to engage in rigorous physical and psychological training. The IJJF programme focuses on throws, trips, striking, and locks, with students learning over 400 techniques throughout their training. It typically takes 5 to 10 years of dedicated practise to earn a black belt.
Aside from honing their physical skills, students also learn valuable psychological training to handle self-defence situations legally and respectfully. The IJJF places great importance on personal development, promoting overall health and well-being.
As a member of the IJJF community, individuals gain access to a close-knit group of martial artists from different occupations, creating an extended family across Australia and its surrounding nations. The club fosters a supportive and inclusive environment, where individuals of all ages and skill levels can train and grow together.
The history of the IJJF is rooted in ancient Japanese traditions and techniques. Jui-Jitsu originated in Japanese Samurai schools, where warriors were trained in various combat methods, including strikes, joint locks, strangulations, and throwing techniques. During peaceful times, Jui-Jitsu became more focused on civil combat, away from the battlefield. It is a comprehensive system of martial arts and philosophy, with techniques that have been utilised by military and police special forces worldwide due to their swift effectiveness.
The IJJF Walkaway club has its roots in the teachings of Professor Kam Hock Hoe, who studied Jui-Jitsu in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan in the early 20th century. His expertise and passion for the art led him to establish the club in Geraldton, where he passed on his knowledge to generations of students.
Today, the International Jui-Jitsu Foundation Walkaway club continues to carry on the legacy of Professor Kam Hock Hoe. The club provides a welcoming and empowering environment for individuals to learn and excel in the art of Japanese Jui-Jitsu while upholding the values of honour, justice, and service.
