Welcome to Inverleigh Bowls Club Incorporated, located at the junction of the Leigh and Barwon Rivers in the charming town of Inverleigh, just a short drive west of Geelong, along the Hamilton Highway. Established in May 1986, the club has a rich history of dedicated members and a strong sense of community.
Inverleigh Bowls Club originated from a committee of enthusiastic individuals who shared a passion for the sport in the late 1980s. Despite numerous setbacks, the club successfully established its greens, erected buildings, and implemented necessary facilities such as fences and watering systems. Through countless hours of voluntary labour, the club was able to open debt-free.
Initially, the club focused on social bowls, inviting members of the community to come together and enjoy the sport. As the membership grew, Inverleigh Bowls Club affiliated with the Geelong District Bowls Association and Geelong Ladies in the early 2000s, which is now known as the Geelong Region. This expansion allowed the club to field pennant teams and participate in association events, fostering a sense of camaraderie and competitiveness.
In 2001/2002, the club achieved a significant milestone when the Tuesday Pennant team secured the leadingship in Second Division alongside Drumcondra. With continued growth in membership, Inverleigh Bowls Club now fields its own team each year. Moreover, with successful grant applications in 2008, the club replaced its grass green with a synthetic surface, offering improved playing conditions. In 2009, a new clubhouse facility was constructed, providing a welcoming space for members and visitors.
Over the years, Inverleigh Bowls Club has seen an expansion in membership and a commendable level of success in its bowling endeavours. The club proudly celebrated its 30th birthday in 2016, where some original founding members were able to join in the festivities. We are always delighted to welcome new faces and share the joy of lawn bowls. Join us for our monthly meetings, held on the second Monday of each month at 7pm in our clubrooms. We also offer regular pennant practise sessions every Friday night during the pennant season at 5pm. Social bowls are available by booking only at the moment.
Inverleigh Bowls Club takes pride in its impressive list of topships in various divisions throughout the years. Noteworthy achievements include winning the Saturday Division 11 in 2008/2009, Saturday Division 10 in 2009/2010, Saturday Division 9 in 2010/2011, Saturday Division 10 in 2011/2012, Saturday Division 7 in 2012/2013, Saturday Division 6 in 2013/2014, Saturday Division 5 in 2017/2018, and Saturday Division 3 in 2020/2021.
