The Ipswich Heart Foundation Walkers is a sports club based in Brisbane, Australia. We are a walking group that aims to promote physical activity and improve heart health in the community. Our group is proudly supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia and is available for people of all ages and fitness levels.
Walking is a simple yet effective form of exercise that has numerous health benefits. Research has shown that walking for an average of 30 minutes a day can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 per cent. It also helps manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, reduces the risk of certain cancers, and improves bone density, balance, and coordination.
Our walking group offers a supportive and motivating environment for individuals who want to improve their heart health and overall well-being. By joining our group, participants can build connexions within their community and walk towards a healthier heart together.
To cater to different preferences and fitness levels, we have walking groups available in various locations across Brisbane. Individuals can search for a walking group within a specific radius of their town, suburb, or postcode. Once they find a suitable group, they can register and connect with the Walk Organiser who will provide all the necessary information to get started.
We believe that everyone can benefit from regular physical activity, and therefore we also offer Personal Walking Plans for free. Through these plans, individuals can receive guidance and support to achieve their health and fitness goals in just six weeks. Our walking programme is complemented by healthcare professionals who can refer their patients to our structured programme as part of their care.
Testimonials from our members highlight the positive impact that walking has had on their lives. For example, Maria, a group walker, shared her experience of walking away from diabetes and blood pressure problems. She started with a goal of walking 5,000 steps a day and gradually increased to 15,000 steps a day, resulting in significant improvements in her overall health.
We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to become Volunteer Walk Organisers and lead our walking groups. As a Walk Organiser, you will play a vital role in planning walking routes, scheduling meetings, and welcoming new members to the group. In return, you will receive training, access to an online profile to manage your group, thank you gifts, and invitations to events and workshops.
Joining the Ipswich Heart Foundation Walkers is a great way to improve your heart health, meet new people, and make a positive impact in the community. Whether you are an individual looking for a walking group or someone who wants to lead a group, we welcome you to join our walking community and take steps towards a healthier heart.
