With a focus on health, defence, and self-development, Aikido is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Founded in 1973, the Irish Aikido Federation is recognised by the Aikikai Foundation in Tokyo and is a member of the International Aikido Federation.
The federation offers classes at its headquarters in Dublin 2, as well as at various dojos throughout Ireland. Led by chief instructor Sen MacRuair, 7th Dan, the Irish Aikido Federation provides a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn and practise Aikido. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or a complete beginner, the Irish Aikido Federation offers a free first class to all new members. Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with the Wicklow Aikido Club also meeting on Thursdays at 7pm.
In addition to regular classes, the federation organises weekend training courses and a residential summer school, providing opportunities for students to deepen their practise and connect with the wider Aikido community.
