As jazz can benefit greatly from the technical training received in ballet. Contemporary IDAs contemporary program is one of the most experienced and highly educated teachers in the Maritimes. Students in the contemporary program will learn various techniques and styles of contemporary dance including release, floor work, partnering, and improvisation. This program is designed to challenge students both technically and creatively while allowing them to express themselves through movement in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Intensive Training Program IDA also offers an Intensive Training Program for senior students who are serious about pursuing a career in dance. This program includes additional classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary, pointe, and conditioning as well as performance opportunities and professional development workshops. Students in the Intensive Training Program are also eligible for a grade 12 school credit. Island Dance Academy is dedicated to providing quality dance training in a fun and safe environment for students of all ages and skill levels.

Our ballet curriculum follows the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus, and we use a customized jazz curriculum designed to complement and enhance the RAD syllabus.
