JKA Karate Dalgety Bay

JKA Karate Dalgety Bay is a well-established and bespoke dojo located in Dunfermline, Scotland. Led by Instructor Sensei Bert Stewart, a 5th Dan Black Belt (JKA), the dojo is fully qualified and registered with the Scottish Karate Governing Body and sanctioned by Sports Scotland.

The club welcomes individuals of all age groups, including beginners, experienced students, and those who may be returning to karate after a period of absence. The classes offer training in all aspects of Shotokan Karate and provide a safe and friendly atmosphere for practise.

Training at JKA Karate Dalgety Bay is personalised, with support and guidance from Sensei Stewart, assistant instructors, and mentoring from senior grades and students. Whether you join in or watch on the first evening, all you need is your bare feet, loose clothing, and enthusiasm.

As part of the Japan Karate Association, the club follows a refined form of Shotokan, the traditional karate style perfected by Master Funakoshi. Unlike a game of points, weight classes, or sport/demonstrations, their karate focuses on being a traditional martial art and a way of life. Students are trained to be peaceful, but also equipped to take down an opponent with a single blow if conflict is unavoidable.

The practise of Shotokan Karate at JKA Karate Dalgety Bay emphasises strength, speed, focus, and control. However, these physical aspects are just part of the journey. Through kihon (basic techniques), kumite (fighting skills), and kata (pre-set sequences of techniques), students learn to control their movements and perform techniques without having to think about them. The training aims to have the body remember how to move, and the mind remember how to be still.

Class times at JKA Karate Dalgety Bay are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The schedule caters to different age groups and offers specific classes for different grades. The club is conveniently located at 82 East Way, Hillend Industrial Estate, Dalgety Bay, KY11 9JF.
