Shudan Wellingborough Judo Club is excited to announce an upcoming Judo event that is sure to captivate interested players in the Wellingborough area. Judo, known as the 'gentle way', is a sport that originated from ju-jitsu and has grown to become one of the most popular sports in the world. Developed by Dr Jigoro Kano in Japan, Judo not only offers a fantastic physical workout but also serves as an educational system, focusing on both physical and moral development.
No matter your age or gender, Judo is a suitable sport for everyone, including disability groups. It's an ideal form of exercise, improving stamina, overall fitness, and general health. As participants progress through the ranks, their confidence, and self-esteem naturally flourish. The grading system ensures that Judo players can compete with others of similar ability, providing a fair chance for success. Safety is a top priority, with specific rules in place for contest Judo, which emphasises controlled and forceful throws onto the opponent's back.
If you're interested in starting your Judo journey, Shudan Wellingborough Judo Club's Dojo is the perfect place to begin. All you need to do is show up on a training night, and we'll provide you with the necessary uniform and teach you the basic moves to get started. Even better, your first calendar month of training is completely free! As you become more comfortable with basic throws, holds, and break-falling techniques, you'll have the opportunity to join our experienced players on the mat. Don't worry if you feel like you're not fit enough – starting a new sport is an excellent way to improve your fitness levels. Our Dojo caters to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced players, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and supported.
To participate in Judo at our Dojo, it's recommended that you wear a t-shirt under your judo jacket and loose-fitting bottoms without zips or metal. Usually, Judo is practised barefoot, but wearing socks for medical reasons is permitted. However, it's not recommended. Before training, please ensure you have trimmed your nails, tied back your hair, and removed any piercings to prevent any injuries. Lastly, don't forget to bring along a drink and a towel, as the training sessions can work up quite a sweat. You are also more than welcome to attend and observe a session before making any commitments.
For those interested in children's classes, we offer sessions on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings. Adult classes are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. To find the most up-to-date information regarding class schedules, please refer to our session times page.
