About
Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association (KTRA) was established in 1988 as a non-profit charitable organization located in Kamloops, on the ancestral lands of Tk'emlps te Secwpemc within Secwepemclucw. The association's primary focus is to provide therapeutic horseback riding to individuals with disabilities, offering numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits through interactions with horses.
With a goal to create opportunities for personal growth, healing, and connection through shared experiences with horses, KTRA aims to help participants increase emotional regulation, physical capacity, sense of accomplishment, and connection with others and horses. The organization recently moved to Koalrock Equestrian, an 18-acre property with a covered arena, allowing for year-round sessions and increased utilization to service more riders annually.
KTRA's mission is to foster a community where all individuals can find joy, empowerment, and personal growth through horse riding. The organization values respect, integrity, and compassion in all activities and decisions, embraces diversity and inclusion, and prioritizes the well-being of their equine partners. Members of PATH Intl. Region 9, KTRA strives for experiential excellence and continuous personal and professional growth in their programs.
Through donations and grants, KTRA continues to expand its services and reach more individuals in the community, offering a unique and impactful therapeutic experience through horse riding.
