Karate and Kobudo Hastings, also known as Taifu Okinawan Karate School, is a well-established martial arts school located in Hastings, New Zealand. Founded in 1993, Taifu Karate has been dedicated to providing quality training and grading to numerous students who have reached the esteemed black belt level.
At Karate and Kobudo Hastings, students have the opportunity to study two traditional styles of Okinawan Karate: Goju Ryu and Uechi Ryu, as well as Okinawa weaponry, known as Kobudo. Goju Ryu Karate combines both hard and soft techniques, incorporating powerful blocks and punches along with circular deflections and strikes. This style is especially effective in close quarter combat situations. Uechi Ryu Karate also emphasises the use of both hard and soft techniques, with a focus on single knuckle punches and the utilisation of the tip of the big toe for kicking.
Similar to Goju Ryu, Uechi Ryu is designed for close quarter fighting.
In addition to karate training, Taifu Okinawan Karate School offers an extensive programme in Okinawa Kobudo weaponry. This training involves the use of various weapons, with beginner students beginning their journey with the Bo, a six-foot staff.
Training at Karate and Kobudo Hastings takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays. The school is conveniently located at Blacklands Hall, Laton Road in Hastings, East Sussex, with ample space for fitness activities. For those interested in starting their martial arts journey, an Adult Beginners Course is available, with the next course scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 4th, 2023.
