Karate Bristol was established about 10 years ago by Sensei David Judah Daniel, a 5th Dan black belt, seeking to provide quality karate training for all ages and abilities.
Following the closure of his previous club, Sensei David set up Karate Bristol, which now operates from three locations: Manor Hall in Coalpit Heath, St Saviours Church Hall, and Yate Academy. This expansion allows the school to offer regular weekly training sessions across the Bristol area.
David’s passion for martial arts began as a means to counter bullying during his school years. He explored various combat sports before discovering karate, initially training in Shotokan and then moving to Shito ryu. At nearly 60, David continues to train daily, aiming to improve both as a martial artist and a mentor.
In addition to his martial arts qualifications, David holds level 2 instructor certifications in Gym instruction and Circuit training. He stresses the importance of fitness, encouraging his students to maintain their physical condition. Recently, he competed in a kata tournament in Japan and continues his training with instructors in the UK, Europe, and Japan.
Karate Bristol currently has around 100 students training at its dojos, with plans to expand membership and increase the number of training sessions. Offering up to 7 hours of live training per week, the club provides ample opportunities for members to develop their skills.
The club promotes family training sessions, structuring classes to meet everyone's needs and adhering to traditional principles. Training covers basic techniques, kumite (sparring), kata (forms), and self-defence, including “bunkai” (the hidden techniques within kata).
Karate Bristol fosters a friendly and supportive environment, with a strong sense of mutual respect among training partners. Affiliated with Shito Ryu Shukokai Union, led by Sensei Masataka Ohshita (9th Dan) and Sensei Chris Mileham (8th Dan), the school ensures quality instruction.
David believes the path to a black belt is within reach for anyone with the right determination. Through consistent practice, students not only achieve physical fitness but also a sense of accomplishment, guided by David and other instructors.
Training at Karate Bristol includes drills to improve speed, agility, and overall fitness, essential for martial arts development.
