If you're passionate about Kathak dance and want to take part in the next Kathak Dance Examinations in Spring 2024, you're in luck! DNC Dance & Yoga Studio, a local Contemporary Dance club in Slough, is hosting this exciting event.
The exams are divided into various levels, catering to dancers of different skill and experience. From Primary Level to Grade 1-2, Grade 3-4, Grade 5-6, and even Vocational Training, there's a level for everyone.
During the exams, participants will face both practical and theoretical assessments. They'll be quizzed about their piece and have to showcase their understanding of the history of Kathak dance. Learning terminology and reciting rhythm compositions are also part of the challenge. To top it off, participants will have to submit a theory folder.
When it comes to the practical assessment, the focus will be on the dance piece participants have learned during their classes. Footwork, spins, and hand movements will be evaluated, as well as their command over rhythm and overall performance. Of course, confidence, and the ability to enjoy the dance will also play a part.
One exciting aspect of the exams is the creative exercise. Participants will be given a phrase, pattern, or theme and will have to devise their own dance steps. This exercise aims to assess their creativity and imagination.
The exams take place at the DNC Dance & Yoga Studio in Berkshire, which has been hosting Kathak exams since 2009. As an affiliate of the International Society for Teachers of Dance (ISTD), the studio ensures a high standard of examination. Please note that participants must be above the age of 9 to take grades in dance, which are evaluated by an external examiner.
After successful completion of the exams, participants will receive internationally recognised certificates from the exam board within 8 weeks. This is a great opportunity to have your skills acknowledged and celebrated. Even if you're learning Kathak from another teacher, you're welcome to apply for the exams.
To prepare for each grade, it's recommended that participants allocate between 12–24 months for practice, research, and self-study. This ensures a solid foundation of knowledge and skills.
If you're excited about this opportunity and want to take part in the 2024 exams, don't hesitate to register your interest. It's a chance to showcase your talent, deepen your understanding of Kathak dance, and receive recognition for your hard work.
