Kats Walking Group

To commit to leading a walking group for at least 12 months. Willing to complete the Walk Organiser training and comply with the Heart Foundation Walking Policies and Procedures. As a Volunteer Walk Organiser for the Kats Walking Group in Geraldton, you will play a crucial role in creating a supportive and inclusive walking community for members of all ages and fitness levels.

The Kats Walking Group is a sports club in Geraldton that aims to promote the benefits of walking for heart health and overall well-being. With over 600 walking groups nationwide, the club is proudly supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia. Walking has proven to be a wonder drug, as just 30 minutes of walking a day can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 percent. Additionally, regular walking can help manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol, reduce the risk of developing certain cancers, maintain bone density, and improve balance and coordination, thus reducing the risk of falls and other injuries.

She initially aimed for 5,000 steps a day and gradually increased it to 15,000 steps a day. Joining the Kats Walking Group is easy. Simply search for a walking group near you by entering your suburb, town, or postcode. Once you find a suitable group, register and provide some basic information about yourself. The Walk Organiser will then provide you with all the necessary details to get started on your walking journey.

For those interested in becoming Volunteer Walk Organisers, the Kats Walking Group provides the opportunity to lead a Heart Foundation Walking group in the Geraldton community. As a Walk Organiser, you will plan walking routes, determine meeting places and timings, and welcome new members to your group. The Heart Foundation will provide training and ongoing support, and you will also be eligible for rewards through the Walker Recognition Scheme.
