About

Kempo Kobud Scotland is a martial arts and self-defence school located in Dundee, Scotland. The school focuses on teaching Kobud, an Okinawan martial art that specialises in traditional weapons such as the katana, nunchaku, bo, sai, kama, tonfa, tekko, tanbo, and eku. Additionally, the school also specialises in Katsuki Ryu Karate, known as “victorious dragon style karate,” which draws its roots from Shotokan and is renowned for its philosophy and precision.

Training at Kempo Kobud Scotland includes kihon (basics), kata (forms and patterns), and kumite (sparring), all conducted within a safe and controlled environment using approved training equipment. The classes are taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and the instructors are always available to answer questions related to the history or practical aspects of martial arts.

The school takes pride in its welcoming community of passionate students and instructors who are dedicated to preserving and respectfully evolving these traditional martial arts. Unlike contemporary sport martial arts, Kempo Kobud Scotland focuses on maintaining the original values and philosophies of these arts, rather than solely focusing on point-scoring and tournament success.

The school caters to individuals of all ages (5+), abilities, and skill levels. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn self-defence skills and build confidence or an experienced practitioner seeking to deepen your knowledge and skills, Kempo Kobud Scotland offers classes with a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

What sets Kempo Kobud Scotland apart is that it is the only martial arts school in the UK to offer a full-time curriculum dedicated solely to Kobud. Their syllabus covers a wide range of traditional Kobud weapons without requiring concurrent or prior training in another martial art.

In the year 2023, Kempo Kobud Scotland experienced significant success, with students achieving remarkable results in four competitions. They secured titles such as the under 15s Scottish Kobudo Champion and the European Kobudo Short Weapons Champion. Their collective effort resulted in an impressive tally of 53 medals across three competitions, which is exceptional considering the school's size and limited number of competition competitors.

Kempo Kobud Scotland operates at multiple locations. Their main dojo is located at 21 Haldane Avenue, Dundee, and they also have classes available at Forfar Community Campus in Forfar, and The Larick Centre in Tayport. The school offers classes for children aged 5 to 12, as well as classes for adults aged 12 and above. They also provide private Kobud tuition upon request.
