Kesshin Kai Ju-Jitsu & Sport Nunchaku U. K. National H. Q.
is a renowned martial arts school located in Windermere, New Zealand. Formerly known as Lakeland Ju-Jitsu Academy, the school has a rich history and is dedicated to providing its students with a combination of dedication, fitness, and fun.
The school specialises in the practise of Ju-Jitsu, which is an ancient Japanese martial art that originated during the pre-Tokugawa Shogunate times. It is considered a parent art, as it has influenced other martial arts such as Judo and Aikido. Ju-Jitsu is believed to be over 2,500 years old and was initially practised by the ancient Samurai as a form of unarmed combat alongside their weapons training.
The origins of Ju-Jitsu can be traced back to various forms of unarmed combat native to Japan and potentially influenced by other Asian countries. It is believed that the art was further developed when an Indian Zen Buddhist monk named Bhoddidharma introduced yogic breathing forms into China and combined them with Chinese Kempo. This eventually evolved into a style of open-hand self-defence known as Go-Shin-Jutsu-Karate.
The formalisation of Ju-Jitsu training is often attributed to Hisamori Teninuchi, who formed a school in 1532. Subsequently, a monk named Chin Gen Pinh brought Kempo from China to Japan, integrating it into the teaching of Ju-Jitsu. During the Tokugawa era in the 17th century, Ju-Jitsu continued to flourish as part of the formalised Samurai training.
The Ju-Jitsu club at Windermere H. Q. was formally established in October 1997 initially for the students of Charlotte Mason College in Ambleside. However, due to its growing success and development, the club was opened to members of the public in September 2012 under the name Lakeland Ju-Jitsu Club.
The club quickly gained popularity, attracting fifteen junior and eight senior members. This success led to the opening of additional clubs in Kendal and Carlisle, with the total club membership now exceeding 150 members ranging from three years old to adults.
In January 2012, the club underwent a name change and became known as Kesshin Kai, reflecting its growing influence and international recognition. Known for its dedication to excellence, Kesshin Kai recently hosted the World Nunchaku Championships at The Judo Pre-Olympic Training Centre in Kendal. The event showcased some of the world's most talented martial artists, providing students of Kesshin Kai with the opportunity to compete and demonstrate their skills.
With its dedication to fitness, fun, and the rich history of Ju-Jitsu, Kesshin Kai Ju-Jitsu & Sport Nunchaku U. K. National H. Q.
strives to provide an inspiring and rewarding experience for its members. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced martial artist, Kesshin Kai welcomes individuals of all ages and skill levels to join their esteemed school in Windermere.
