Located in Aboyne, Scotland, the Kincardine Fishing Beat is a fishing club that offers an excellent fly-fishing experience on the River Dee. Situated approximately 30 miles from the sea and near the village of Kincardine O'Neil, this fishing beat boasts superb fishing water that is suitable for anglers of all skill levels.
Stretching over 1. 25 miles, the Kincardine Beat offers a variety of pools and fishing spots that are ideal for casting and catching fish. At normal water levels, anglers can enjoy fishing from the bank, with popular spots like the March and Calm Pools, Lucky Hole, Whinbush, and Clay Pot providing shelter from cold northerly winds. Downstream, the Willow Bed, Lower Willow Bed, Bend and Boat, and Village Pools offer promising casting opportunities.
Additionally, in higher water levels, anglers can even try their luck in the Ford. The entire water stretch is fishable, making it a great fishing destination.
Using a small fly and floating line, anglers can expect successful fishing throughout most of the year. The beat is known for its abundance of sea-trout, making it a popular spot for those seeking the thrill of catching these elusive fish. Skilled and dedicated sea-trout fishermen often achieve the best results around midnight during the summer months.
The beat provides excellent facilities for anglers, including two fishing huts. The main fishing hut, located mid-point along the beat, offers a spacious and well-equipped space with running water, a log-stove, a composting toilet, and a BBQ. It features large windows that overlook the rushing river and a covered verandah. Additionally, a secondary hut with a picturesque view of the upper pools is also available, equipped with a log fire.
While there is no ghillie on the beat, the Estate Office can provide recommendations for competent local ghillies if needed. The beat is easily accessible, with a track leading from the A93 trunk road. Parking is available at the main hut, and a vehicle track leads upstream towards the upper pools. There is also a track to the upper hut, with parking available in a nearby layby on the A93.
Convenience is key at the Kincardine Fishing Beat, as the local village shop offers a range of everyday items and tasty hot and cold food to take away. For additional services and amenities, the nearby towns of Banchory and Aboyne have everything anglers may need.
For those who require fishing tackle, full tackle hire is available from Twin Peakes Flyfishing at Milton of Crathes or Somers in Aberdeen. Flies and other fishing supplies can also be purchased at George Strachan Ltd in Aboyne and Kincardine O'Neil Village Store.
