Dance Theatre is a renowned professional dance performance company located in St. John's, Newfoundland. Under the leadership of Executive Director Calla Lachance, Kittiwake Dance Theatre showcases a full season of ballet and contemporary ballet performances, with regular tours throughout the province. The company's diverse repertoire includes a variety of styles and genres, with a focus on original works and storytelling.
One of Kittiwake Dance Theatre's most popular productions is the annual presentation of “The Nutcracker,” a beloved holiday tradition that has been delighting audiences for 37 years. In addition to regular performances, Kittiwake also hosts special events such as the Emergence spring concert, featuring works by emerging artists and collaborations with guest performers.
Committed to supporting local talent and creativity, Kittiwake Dance Theatre offers a unique workshop series each fall and spring, providing opportunities for dancers to enhance their skills and explore new techniques. The company also runs a summer dance intensive program in the last two weeks of August.
Kittiwake Dance Theatre is dedicated to making dance accessible to the community and actively collaborates with organizations such as Neighbourhood Dance Works, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Memorial University's School of Music, and Shallaway Youth Choir. The company also partners with Canada's National Ballet School to deliver dance programs to seniors and schools, as well as participating in various community outreach initiatives.
