Aikido, which means “The way of harmony of spirit,” is a Japanese martial art created by Master Morihei Ueshiba, also known as 'O Sensei'. The philosophy of Aikido is to bring universal harmony and world peace by overcoming violence and aggression through the harmony of spirit. Unlike some other martial arts, Aikido does not rely on brute strength, making it suitable for men and women of all ages and abilities.
Kobukan Aikido Blaydon offers classes at various locations in the Northeast of England. The main training session takes place on Sundays from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at the Washington Leisure Centre in Washington. Additionally, there are classes on Monday evenings at the Synthonia Scout Hut in Bilingham, Thursday evenings at the Cleveland Hall FC in Gateshead, and Friday evenings at the Dauntless Gymnastics Centre in Blaydon-on-Tyne.
The principles of Aikido involve blending one's energy with that of the opponent to achieve a peaceful resolution. This energy, known as 'Ki', is represented by the symbols of the Circle, Triangle, and Square. The Circle represents harmony and movement, the Triangle represents conflict and posture, and the Square represents resolution and technique.
Kobukan Aikido Blaydon provides comprehensive training in various Aikido techniques and attacks. Some techniques taught include Aiki Kokyu Nage (breath power throw), Irimi Nage (entering throw), Kote Gaeshi (wrist turn over), and many more. Students also learn general Aikido terminology and the principles behind each technique.
