Kraken Submission Grappling | Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Cambridgeshire is a martial arts club located in Ely, offering the latest evolution of grappling martial arts, specifically no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (or Submission Grappling). The club combines the most effective techniques from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Judo, and Sambo, making it the mixed martial arts of the grappling world.
The club is based out of The Hive leisure centre and boasts the largest mat space in Cambridgeshire, currently measuring 130 square metres. In 2022, the mat space will be expanded to over 200 square metres to accommodate the club's rapidly growing membership. Additionally, a studio in little Downham has recently been opened, providing daytime classes and private sessions.
Their adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu timetable offers classes throughout the week, ensuring flexibility for all members. Classes are conducted in both the studio and The Hive leisure centre, providing a variety of training environments to cater to different needs and preferences.
Kraken Submission Grappling prides itself on being a tight-knit community that fosters team spirit and morale. They prioritise creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for all members, whether they are grappling veterans or beginners on their first day. Empowering personal development and growth is at the core of their club's ethos, with every member committed to supporting one another on and off the mats.
The club's curriculum is designed to be accessible and easy to understand, particularly for beginners who may find Jiu Jitsu overwhelming or intimidating. Each session builds upon the previous one, starting with fundamental techniques and progressing towards mastery. Throughout this journey, the entire team is dedicated to guiding and supporting each member.
Kraken Submission Grappling believes in the importance of practising Jiu Jitsu as a team sport rather than an individual pursuit. They offer mixed-ability classes, recognising the value of experienced students mentoring beginners and the inspiration beginners can draw from observing skilled practitioners. The club does not provide belts or a ranking system, as they believe these often create false goals for students. Instead, their focus is on developing undeniable skills and becoming independent problem solvers and masters of the art.
In contrast to more traditional academies, Kraken Submission Grappling prides itself on its respectful and non-derogatory approach. They do not engage in unwritten rules or practises that may make students feel inferior. The club prioritises treating all members with respect, regardless of their length of training, and values the efficient use of training time.
So, why should you train Jiu Jitsu? Kraken Submission Grappling believes that Jiu Jitsu offers numerous benefits, including improved physical fitness, self-defence skills, mental resilience, and an opportunity to be part of a supportive community. Jiu Jitsu is a game of strategy and technique, providing a unique and engaging physical challenge.
