Kumataka Epping Dōjō is a renowned sports club located in Sydney, Australia. The club specialises in training in authentic Sōsuishi-ryū Jujutsu & Iai-jutsu, traditional Kōdokan Jūdō, Okinawan Karate, and Kobudo. It serves as the headquarters of the Sōsuishi-ryū Jujutsu Kai Australia (SJJK-AUS) and is affiliated with Judo NSW, the state body of Judo Australia.
The club believes that practising these martial arts is a serious undertaking that requires years of dedication to achieve a deeper understanding. However, they are also highly enjoyable and fulfilling arts with unbroken lineages that trace back to their origins in Japan. The club maintains strong connexions with Japan and regularly travels there for continuing training.
The club welcomes inquiries from committed budōka (martial artists) as well as those who are interested in embarking on this journey. The club offers a variety of classes throughout the week, including Junior Kōdokan Jūdō, Senior Kōdokan Jūdō, Karate, and Sōsuishi-ryū Jujutsu. There are also combined Junior/Senior classes for Karate and Thursday sessions.
Junior classes are open to members aged 7 to 14 years old.
For new starters, the club runs beginner and new starter sessions for the first 5 weeks of each quarter/school term. After that, they ask new starters to wait until the next intake. The club is an approved Aktive Kids Provider, and interested individuals can search for Kumataka as a provider.
