Lake District Ski Club

The Lake District Ski Club is a renowned ski resort and tourist attraction located in Cumbria, England. Established in 1936, it operates a 360-metre button tow on Raise, which is situated next to Helvellyn in the beautiful Lake District National Park. Accessible with just an hour's walk from the mines at Glenridding, Raise boasts the best snow conditions in the area, making it a popular destination for skiing enthusiasts.

The ski club offers a unique skiing experience with up to nine runs available, depending on prevailing conditions. Membership is available for an affordable price of 50 per year when paid through direct debit, allowing members to ski as many times as they want. Alternatively, visitors can opt for a day membership for just 20 when the tow is open to all.

The club is entirely run by dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to maintain the exceptional quality of the resort. The Lake District Ski Club is equipped with a cosy heated members' hut, providing a comfortable space for skiers to relax and warm up.

It is important to note that the ski club does not provide ski hire or tuition facilities, accommodation, or holiday packages. Visitors are expected to be well-prepared for the mountain environment and physically fit to undertake the steep climb while carrying their gear. The Lake District Ski Club takes pride in its rich history. Founded by a group of passionate mountaineer-skiers in 1936, it has evolved over the years to become one of the best ski destinations in England. The club's original rope tow was replaced with a modern button lift in 1989, and the member's hut, constructed in 1958, was replaced with a modern, fully-equipped hut named the Millennium Hut in 1999. Additionally, a flushing toilet, known as the Powder Room, was built in 2011 to commemorate the club's 75th anniversary.

Maintaining and improving the ski club facilities is a collective effort, with monthly work meets held outside the skiing season. Volunteers assist in tasks such as maintaining fences, ski tows, hangers, and engines, as well as painting, fuel transportation, and other necessary odd jobs. The ski club always welcomes extra help and encourages individuals to join the work meets during the off-season, regardless of prior experience.
