Philip 'Froggy' Hall recently shared a memorable experience organised for Scouts and Guides. The young participants set out on a barge journey along the canals of Oxfordshire. This provided them with not only an opportunity to explore the natural surroundings but also to develop teamwork and leadership capabilities. It's just one of the various community projects that the Leafield Community Gym supports.
Leafield Community Gym traces its roots back to 2014 when Froggy Hall and Rich Weinhold envisioned revamping the old sports pavilion in Leafield. They, alongside a committed team, secured Parish Council approval, gathered quotes, and successfully fundraised to transform the pavilion into a modern gym. Their collective effort, bolstered by community support and crucial grants, including one from the Big Lottery Fund, brought this vision to life.
The gym offers memberships for individuals and families, starting from age 14, with no joining fees. Membership plans range from monthly to yearly. The facility includes treadmills, cross trainers, rowing machines, upright bikes, a multigym, adjustable benches, dumbbells, and yoga mats, along with convenient toilet facilities.
As a non-profit, Leafield Community Gym is deeply invested in the community, regularly granting funds to local sports and health initiatives. Moreover, the gym pays rent to the Parish Council, aiding the upkeep of the village.
Opening with a modest goal of 35 members, the gym has grown to accommodate over 50 members, establishing itself as a vital part of Leafield. In January 2015, the gym reached a milestone with its opening ceremony led by then Prime Minister David Cameron and the local MP, highlighting its significance.
For those new to the area or contemplating gym membership, Leafield Community Gym invites you to visit.
