Legacy Jiu Jitsu is a martial arts school located in Chippendale, Sydney. With a strong focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the academy provides a safe and welcoming environment for students of all ages and skill levels to learn and practise this popular martial art.
At Legacy Jiu Jitsu, students are encouraged to embrace the spirit of martial arts and to embody the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance. The academy is passionate about helping individuals reach their full potential both on and off the mat, fostering personal growth and self-confidence.
Mat etiquette is highly emphasised at Legacy Jiu Jitsu. Students are expected to maintain proper hygiene, ensuring that their gi's (uniforms) are clean and dry, nails trimmed, hair tied back, and no jewellery is worn during training. This is to prevent injuries and the spread of infection, promoting a safe training environment for everyone.
Respect is a key value at Legacy Jiu Jitsu, and students are reminded to bow before stepping onto the mat as a sign of respect for the gym and their training. Swearing or using profanities on the mats is strictly prohibited. Additionally, punctuality is highly valued, and students are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to sessions to change and prepare themselves for training. It is also important to silence or turn off mobile phones during training sessions.
During training, students are expected to maintain self-awareness and exhibit good posture. The focus is on training and improving skills, and as such, it is significant to stay hydrated and use the bathroom before class to avoid unnecessary interruptions. Leaving the mats without permission is also discouraged.
In crowded classes, senior belts have the right of way, and it is the responsibility of students to make room for them during sparring sessions. Students are reminded to keep the mats clean, treating them as they would their own pillow. Feet should be kept clean at all times, and shoes should be worn when using the bathroom.
Safety during training is paramount at Legacy Jiu Jitsu. When caught in a submission hold, students are encouraged to give their opponent time to tap out. If trapped, tapping three times or verbally submitting is essential to prevent injury.
While the focus at Legacy Jiu Jitsu is on learning and progressing, creating a positive and enjoyable atmosphere is equally important. The academy strives to create a community where students can have fun while developing their skills and connecting with like-minded individuals.
With multiple locations across Sydney and interstate, Legacy Jiu Jitsu is committed to providing high-quality martial arts training to individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. Join the Legacy and discover the power of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for yourself.
