Leilani Callisthenics Club is a welcoming and inclusive sports club located in Eaglby, between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Established in late 2016, the club started its first official year in January 2017 and has since become a thriving community for callisthenics enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.
Founded by Jennifer Townsend and Melanie Leworthy, a mother-daughter team, Leilani Callisthenics Club is operated by dedicated coaches and committee members who are passionate about the sport. The club aims to fill the gap between Brisbane and the Gold Coast by offering the majority of its classes in Ormeau, providing convenient access for locals.
Callisthenics is an artistic and uniquely Australian sport that combines elements of dance, gymnastics, singing, apparatus manipulation, and ballet. At Leilani Callisthenics Club, participants learn choreographed routines set to music and perform them on stage at competitions and concerts. It is both a sport and an art, promoting physical development, coordination, self-discipline, team spirit, and an appreciation for music, rhythm, and correct technique.
Leilani Callisthenics Club has achieved notable success in recent years. The club's teams have consistently performed well in various competitions, including the Queensland State Titles and regional competitions. In 2023, the Tinies Sub Juniors recreational team placed second overall in Division 2 at a regional competition. The Juniors Masters team finished third overall in Division 2 at the Queensland State Titles.
The club has also received special awards for its creativity and excellence. At the CAQI State Championships in 2023, Leilani Callisthenics Club's Junior Division 2 team won the Most Creative Routine award. Individual members have also shone, with Kate Satoff-Theis placing fourth in the Junior Division 2 solo category at the Queensland State Championships and Melanie Bothma achieving second place in the Masters solo category.
