When attending a class at Lincoln Yoga – Paul Mullen, you can expect a structured and comprehensive yoga lesson. The class begins with centering and basic breathing exercises, which help calm the mind and focus on the yoga practise. The warm-up comprises mobilising exercises that open up joints and warm key muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Following the warm-up, participants engage in a dynamic posture sequence, which involves a series of sequential postures that further activate the body and work the muscles and joints. This is followed by the main posture preparation, which includes a series of increasingly challenging moves and postures to prepare the body for the most demanding postures of the day.
The main posture(s) of the class are static postures that are held for up to 30 seconds and may be repeated. These postures aim to lengthen key muscle groups, increase joint range of movement, and build strength and stamina in targeted muscles or muscle groups. To provide balance, counter postures are incorporated to work the opposing areas of the main posture.
The winding down phase consists of easier exercises that restore balance to the overall yoga practise. A breathing practise prepares participants for the final phase, which is relaxation and meditation. This guided practise aids in concentration, calms the body and mind, and promotes a sense of inner peace.
