Mahagami Dance Gurukul in Aurangabad stands as a beacon of traditional Indian Kathak and Odissi dance forms, rooted deeply in the ancient Guru-shishya tradition. Established in 1996 under the auspices of the Mahatma Gandhi Mission Sangeet Academy, this esteemed institution is uniquely positioned as the only one of its kind in Maharashtra. With its status as the first ISO-certified art organization in the world and a proud member of the International Dance Council of UNESCO, Mahagami is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Indian art and culture.
Under the expert guidance of Kathak and Odissi exponent Parwati Dutta, who has served as the Director and Guru since its inception, Mahagami has evolved into a dynamic center for artistic training, research, and dissemination. Over the years, it has trained more than 2000 students, blending modern educational techniques with the timeless values and rigorous discipline of the ancient Gurukul system. This synthesis creates a holistic learning environment where students not only master the technicalities of dance but also absorb the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of the art form.
Mahagami’s vibrant annual calendar is packed with an array of cultural events, including in-house baithaks, concerts, workshops, seminars, and festivals. The institution also provides ample opportunities for its students and renowned artists alike to perform at prestigious festivals both in India and abroad. Through the innovative 'Anubhuti' program, Mahagami extends its reach to educational, social, and corporate organizations, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of classical Indian arts.
The Mahagami experience is further enriched by its periodic workshops and the unique GURUKUL EXPERIENCE program, designed for cultural seekers and tourists of all ages. Managed by the charitable and educational Mahatma Gandhi Mission, Mahagami stands as a testament to the enduring strength of ancient traditions while continually evolving to meet the needs of contemporary society. The Gurukul's mission is clear and heartfelt: to nurture a new generation of artists and audiences who are as passionate about traditional Indian arts as those who have come before them.
