About

Have planted over 1,400 new trees in Longford Park. This has not only enhanced the natural beauty of the park, but has also created more challenging and interesting obstacles on the disc golf course. The trees provide additional challenges for players to navigate their discs around, making the game even more exciting and strategic.

The Longford Park Disc Golf Course, located in Stretford, Greater Manchester, was made possible through the support of funders Veolia Environmental Trust and Thrive Trafford, as well as partnerships with Trafford Council, The Friends of Longford Park, and DUFFA (Disc Golf UK). It is the first permanent 18-hole disc golf course in the North West of England, and is open and free for everyone to use.

The course offers two tee pad positions for each hole, catering to both beginners and advanced players. Mobile-friendly, swipable maps are available to help players navigate the course and keep score. In case of heavy rain, certain areas of the course may become waterlogged, so it is advised to wear appropriate footwear.

For those who do not have their own discs, the caf at Longford Park offers disc rentals. A small stock of beginner discs is also available for purchase, either at the caf or through the online shop. The club is dedicated to promoting the sport and provides information on where to buy more discs in the UK.

Manchester Disc Golf is not just limited to Longford Park. They have started a project to instal a new course in Lilford Park, Leigh, near Wigan. Volunteers and funding are needed to make this project a reality, so anyone interested is encouraged to get involved.

COVID-19 protocols are in place to ensure the safety of players and park users. Social distancing rules must be followed, and players are advised to avoid touching baskets and signs. Hand sanitization is recommended, and the course can get busy due to increased interest in the sport during lockdowns. Players are encouraged to be mindful of other park users and be prepared to skip holes or come back at a less busy time.

To support further developments, the club has launched a crowdfunder campaign. One project already funded is the installation of a bike rack at Longford Park, with plans for a second course in Greater Manchester. Donations are welcomed, and disc rentals and discs for sale are available to support the club's initiatives.

Club meets are organised during the summer and winter seasons, providing opportunities for players of all skill levels to participate. Regular updates and information about playing schedules can be found on the Manchester Disc Golf Players Facebook group. Additionally, the club offers free introductory sessions for schools, youth clubs, and adult clubs, and out-of-hours disc hire for groups can be arranged.

One noteworthy achievement of Manchester Disc Golf and Trafford Council is the planting of over 1,400 new trees in Longford Park. This commitment to environmental stewardship not only beautifies the park but also adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement to the disc golf course.

Overall, Manchester Disc Golf offers a vibrant disc golf community in Greater Manchester, providing accessible and enjoyable courses for players of all ages and skill levels. With its dedication to promoting the sport and preserving the natural environment, this club is an excellent choice for disc golf enthusiasts in the area.
