Markham Kendo Club, located in Unionville, is a not-for-profit registered club dedicated to the Japanese martial art of kendo, the way of the sword. Established in 2010 by Head Instructor Hideki Sumi (Kyoshi 7th Dan), the club welcomes students of all levels, including children, to join and explore the art of kendo. Markham Kendo Club is proud to be a club in good standing with Kendo Ontario and the Canadian Kendo Federation (CKF), as well as a member of the International Kendo Federation (FIK).
At Markham Kendo Club, the concept of kendo is to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the katana (sword). Through dedicated practice and study of kendo, members have the opportunity to improve their physical fitness, mental focus, and overall discipline.
The club offers a range of events, including grading sessions, meetings, practices, seminars, and tournaments. Members can cheque the schedule on the website to stay up-to-date with upcoming events and activities. In-person practices are held at the Markham Centennial Community Centre in Unionville.
