Mataji Yoga School

Natasha would like to share some important news and updates with the sports community. For those who may not know, Natasha founded Mataji Yoga School in Palmerston North back in 2010. Driven by a passion for yoga and teaching, she even travelled to India to deepen her practice and obtain her certification. 🌏

During her time in India, Natasha noticed that yoga was losing its essence, becoming more about numbers and less about the true practice. She also saw how this trend left many aspiring teachers disillusioned. Returning to New Zealand with a renewed purpose, Natasha aimed to make a difference.

Mataji Yoga School has always been about honouring the heritage and traditions of yoga, a philosophy Natasha holds dear. Cultural appropriation is a challenge that the school has faced head-on, striving to respect the roots while fostering an inclusive environment.

In 2022, Natasha proudly graduated her last group of yoga teachers, which was a major milestone. With the lease at Shed 23 ending in October 2023, the beautiful studio will conclude its operations. But don’t worry, Mataji Yoga School isn't going away entirely. Natasha will continue offering professional development and coaching for existing yoga teachers and will maintain classes and retreats at The Circle at Shed 23 until then.

Natasha wants to remind everyone that yoga is for everybody. If a teacher ever makes you feel otherwise, it's time to find a new one. The inclusive approach of Mataji Yoga School ensures everyone can find their tribe and feel welcomed.
