With events taking place year-round, the club caters to both young and old fishing enthusiasts who share a love for the beautiful ocean environment surrounding them.
New members are welcomed into the club, whether they live in the area or are holidaymakers. Currently, the club does not have clubrooms, but they are actively working towards establishing a dedicated space in the future.
Membership registration can be done through the club's website, where new members can sign up, and existing members can renew their subs for the 2023-2024 year. The club also has a dedicated page featuring the current weighmasters.
Located on the Thames Coromandel District, the club is pleased to announce that new boat ramp and trailer parking fees have been adopted by the council. Further information regarding these fees can be found on the TCDC website.
The club emphasises the importance of boating safety, especially when crossing the Whangapoua Bar. Members are advised to assess the bar themselves and cross at their own risk, always wearing a legal fitting life jacket. The Whitianga Coastguard can be contacted on Channel 63, and the Now Weather report can be accessed on Channel 20.
Members and followers of the club can reach out to them through their website or follow them on social media for regular updates and events. Technical support for the club's online presence is provided by a Matarangi-based Auckland SEO Agency.
The club has a rich history dating back to May 18, 1995. Blue Lewis played a significant role in the formation of the club, which started with a meeting held at the Matarangi Fire Station. Over the years, the club has organised various social events and competitions, including the popular Annual 2nd January Fishing Competition and the Ladies Doris Day Out Competition. Blue Lewis is now the club's Patron and Life Member, proud of the club's growth and development over the years, and especially pleased to see the junior membership grow.
The Matarangi Boat and Fishing Club organises a range of exciting competitions and events. The Annual Fishing Competition takes place on January 2, 2024, with prizes for Snapper, Kingfish, Kahawai, and John Dory, as well as an Average Weight Snapper prize.
